The Taste of Travancore.
Sree Nandhaas is a traditional chips, snacks, savouries and sweets house from Thiruvananthapuram. We make the food this region has always eaten — Nendran sliced thick and fried whole, murukku with a proper snap to it, mixture with curry leaf running through it, sharkara varatti turned in jaggery — and we make it the way it has always been made.
Our counters serve the city every day. What we pack now travels well beyond it.
Thiruvananthapuram was the seat of Travancore, and the name has stayed with us because the cooking did. This is the corner of God's Own Country where a tin kept on top of the fridge is a household fixture, and where no visitor is allowed to leave without something wrapped for the journey.
That tradition is our entire brief. We are not attempting to modernise it or to improve upon it. We are attempting to keep it precisely as it is, and to make it available to every household that asks for it.
Ours are home recipes — safeguarded within the family and handed down, measured by hand and judged by eye and by smell rather than written into a formula. They have not been adjusted to travel further or to keep longer. Where the traditional method takes longer, we take longer.
The range has widened as the kitchen has found its next thing worth making, and it continues to widen. What does not change is the method behind each item on it.
The Taste of Travancore is not a slogan. It is the standard every batch is held to.
Everything we sell is made in our own production unit. Nothing is bought in from elsewhere and relabelled with our name on the lid. The people who run our counters are the same people who pack what leaves them — a modest arrangement that turns out to matter a great deal for consistency.
Careful handling and honest packing are not features we advertise. They are the baseline for a food business, and we treat them as such.
From its first counter, Sree Nandhaas has grown into a presence across Thiruvananthapuram, and the counters remain the heart of the business. They are also where the range is at its widest. Find a counter →
Some of what we make is finished the same day and does not travel; it stays where it is made and is sold there. What you will find on this website is the part of the range that arrives in the condition it left us in. A pickle will sit happily for months, a murukku is at its best within weeks, and a few things are best eaten the day they are made.
We do not make a single promise across the whole range, because no single promise would be true of every item on it. Coconut oil is correct for the banana chips; it is not correct for the cookies, which are made with butter. So in place of a slogan, every product carries its own particulars: the oil used, the full ingredient list, the allergens declared, and how long it keeps.
A quality seal appears against a product only once our kitchen has confirmed it for that specific item, and not before. You will notice that none appear yet. That is deliberate. We would sooner show you the ingredient list than a mark we have not earned.
The year the first counter opened, the family names behind the business, and photography of the counters and the unit: [FROM THE BUSINESS]. We would rather leave this honest than fill it with a story we made up.
